What is an elevator pitch?

An elevator pitch is a short summary used to introduce yourself, your business, or your product to possible clients, or potential investors. It is straight to the point and leaves an impact on those who read it.

What are the elements of the elevator pitch?

1- Hook: A hook is a sentence that introduces the elevator pitch. The main role of it is to attract the attention of the intended reader. It is short and concise; in some cases, it can be a story. Think about the answers to some of these questions:

•  How is this sentence unique and different from others?
• Will this sentence be magnifying your strengths?
• Will this sentence be limiting your weakness?
• Will this sentence evoke thoughts from your target audience?

 2- The benefit: The benefit you provide to your targeted audience. It includes what added value you bring to the table. Think of some of these questions:

•  How effective were your previous experiences?
• Are all work-related problems from the past resolved?
• What added value can you give your audience?

 3- Call for action: it includes the goal and how you will achieve it. You should show how genuine you are. It can be done by connecting through emails or social media. 

• What can your audience do next?

What to avoid when writing an elevator pitch?

• Filler words (well, like)
• Words that do not show certainty (probably, maybe)
• Do not use the abbreviated form in your elevator pitch
• Avoid robotic and monotonous tones while presenting

What language to include in your elevator pitch?

• Use clear language to express the values and thoughts
• Add numbers to reflect your achievements 
• Make it understandable
• Show passion while presenting
